Hardwoods

posted in: Wood Species

Not all species lend themselves easily to woodcarving! The arrangement of the fibres, the hardness, the knots; make certain species remarkable materials. Others, on the other hand, will be unsuitable both in aesthetic results and in feasibility! The easier the tool cuts, the smoother and more precise the appearance.

Wood is a living material, it has defects in this respect and works over time. It offers many possibilities through its species and possible finishes. For my part, I favor the most natural finishing solutions; that preserve the authenticity of the wood and the work. “Oils & Waxes” are for me the two ideal finishes.
